The European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope Interferometer (ESO’s VLTI) has peered where no telescope looked before and gathered the sharpest images of the region around the supermassive black hole in the center of the Milky Way. In doing so, it has provided the data for the most precise measurement yet of the black hole’s mass.
